Agroholding HarvEast, part of Rinat Akhmetov’s SCM group, has entered the berry market. In 2026, the company planted its first raspberry plantations, taking a practical step into a new agricultural business sector. This was announced by HarvEast CEO Dmytro Skorniakov, as reported by LIGA.Business.
According to him, the decision to invest in the berry business was not impulsive. The company spent about four years studying berry cultivation experiences in Poland, Serbia, and Scotland, analyzing the prospects for growing blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries. HarvEast is consciously limiting large-scale investment projects to avoid overburdening its core business.
During the selection of crops, the company considered only three options: blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries. They decided against growing blackberries and honeyberries due to a limited sales market, and strawberries were excluded because of high competition from Egyptian producers in the international market.
Ultimately, HarvEast chose raspberries as the crop that best suits Ukrainian climatic conditions and possesses significant export potential. In recent years, Ukrainian raspberries have transformed from a niche product into a full-fledged export segment that is actively developing and attracting investment.
The entry of one of the country’s largest agroholdings into the berry market signifies the growing attractiveness of this sector for large agricultural businesses. Further development of raspberry production is expected to strengthen Ukraine’s position in the global market for frozen and fresh berries.
