A large-scale regional Field Day was held at the Bukovyna State Agricultural Experimental Station of the Carpathian Region Agriculture Institute of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine. The main focus of the event was the adaptation of modern breeding developments to the agro-climatic conditions of Ukraine’s Western region.

Presentation of new varieties and hybrids
Leading scientists, heads of agricultural enterprises, breeders, representatives of government institutions, and farms in the Chernivtsi region participated in the event. The Field Day program included an inspection of demonstration plots with varieties and hybrids from the Bukovyna Experimental Station, as well as developments from other leading research institutions of the Academy.
The condition and yield potential of several key crops were assessed:
- Corn: 39 hybrids with different maturity groups were presented, well-adapted to the temperature and moisture conditions of the Carpathian region.
- Soybeans: 24 varieties of Ukrainian selection were planted in demonstration and seed fields.
- Grain beans: 10 varieties, characterized by increased protein content and resistance to lodging.
- Potatoes: 18 modern domestic varieties for various purposes were showcased on demonstration and seed plots.
“The best achievements were presented on the Bukovyna test fields by the V.M. Remeslo Myroniv Institute of Wheat, the Carpathian Region Agriculture Institute, the State Institution Institute of Grain Crops, the Institute of Agriculture, the Selection Genetic Institute — National Center for Seed Production and Variety Study, the V.Ya. Yuriev Institute of Plant Production, the Steppe Agriculture Institute, the Podillia Feed and Agriculture Institute, and the Potato Institute of the NAAS.”
Innovations in crop production: the S-LEAF digital project
Particular attention from the event participants was drawn to the presentation of the pilot scientific and innovative project S-LEAF. Its implementation is being carried out by the Bukovyna Experimental Station in collaboration with Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University.
